Regular Appointments

Orthodontic treatment involves a significant amount of time and commitment from the patient, their family, and our orthodontic team.  Appointments will vary during the active phase of treatment.  The majority of appointments will be short and last approximately 20 minutes.  However, there will be the need for several appointments that will last for 40 minutes or more.  These appointments are infrequent, but necessary for your treatment progression.

In order to provide the best quality of care possible, we have designed our schedule to allow us both the structure and flexibility needed to obtain our orthodontic goals.  In so doing, we will be more than happy to work with you and your schedule to achieve your appointment objective.  It is important to us that our patients understand our appointment policy.

Short Appointments

The majority of appointments for routine adjustments and progress checks are scheduled throughout the day for your convenience.  They are usually scheduled 4-8 weeks in advance and last approximately 20 minutes.

Longer Appointments

  • Appointments requiring a time frame of 40 minutes of chair time or longer will be scheduled early mornings or early afternoons.

  • We will do our best to work with your schedule to allow our patients the best options available.

  • We can provide a school or work excuse if needed when these appointments occur.

Emergency Appointments

  • Please call our office if you have any problems or concerns.

  • Problems are anything that pokes, scratches, cuts or causes pain that you cannot take care of yourself.

  • Broken brackets, loose bands and broken or loose appliances may also need addressing as soon as possible.

Missed/Cancelled Appointments

If you are unable to make your scheduled appointment, please call our office as soon as you can to reschedule.  It is important to keep your appointments as consistent as possible.  Failure to do so can result in the delay of your treatment progress and may incur more cost.

Arriving Late for an Appointment

  • If any unforeseen problems or emergencies cause you to be late for your appointment, please call our office and explain your situation.

  • In fairness to other patients who arrive on time, we may not be able to see you right away.

  • If the schedule allows, we may be able to see you later in the day.  If not, we may have to reschedule your appointment.

Punctuality/Consideration of Others

  • We make every effort to be on time for our patients and ask you to extend the same courtesy to us.

  • If you or your child is too sick to go to work or school or if you are sick with anything contagious, please call our office to reschedule your appointment.

Rotation of Appointments

It is a fact that most of our patients either work or go to school.  In order to be fair to all, it is necessary for us to rotate morning and afternoon appointments.

If a patient has an afternoon appointment (1:40 pm – 4:40 pm), their next appointment will be in the morning.  If a patient has a morning appointment (8:00 am – 11:20 am), their next appointment will be in the afternoon.  If morning appointments are more convenient for you, these appointments should be easy to accommodate.

Appointment Reminders

  • All patients are given a computer generated appointment card.

  • Our in-house “call system” does serve as a reminder the day before your appointment.

  • In the event of power outages or computer problems, we recommend keeping your appointment card as your official reminder.

Cooperation is a must for success

The success of orthodontic treatment is keynoted by cooperation.  It is very important that all instructions be carefully and completely followed for a successful result.

The main areas of concern include the following, but not limited to:

  • Maintaining good oral hygiene by keeping your teeth and braces clean at all times.

  • Being careful while eating and biting into things to prevent damaging your braces.

  • Following directions carefully while using rubber bands, functional appliances, and retainers.

  • Being present and on time for appointments and notifying our office 24 hours in advance if an appointment needs to be changed.

  • Notifying our office if any problems occur with your braces.

  • Seeing your general dentist for regular cleanings and checkups at least every 6 months.

Non-Compliant Patients

Patients with consistent breakage (brackets, bands, and/or wires), poor oral hygiene, not wearing elastics and/or excessive missed appointments do cause our day to get behind.

Avoiding or minimizing these problems helps our day stay on schedule and reduces the “wait time” for our other patients.

Your cooperation and courtesy to us and others is greatly appreciated.
