Emergency Care

We want you to know that we are always available if you have any problems with your braces.  Please call our office if you have an orthodontic emergency and need to schedule an appointment.  If the office is closed, and you have a “true” emergency requiring immediate attention, please call our emergency pager at 877-613-3452.

Most emergencies can wait to be addressed until your next appointment or until the office re-opens.  A loose bracket, band or wire can wait a few days if it is not uncomfortable but do not go weeks or months with something broken.  If you are in discomfort or if something is hurting, do not hesitate to call.  We will take care of your problem as soon as possible.

Irritation of Cheeks and/or Gums

When you first get your braces, your cheeks and gums will have to get used to them.  Rinsing with warm salt water can help make things feel better and help with any irritated areas. Placing wax on the bracket or wire that is rubbing can help cushion things to help speed up the healing process.

Tooth Soreness

After getting your braces, your teeth will be sore. You may also experience soreness for a few days after an adjustment appointment. Please consider Advil, Aleve, Motrin, Tylenol or any other “over the counter” pain medication for the discomfort.

Loose or Broken Bracket(s)

If a bracket is loose or broken and is still attached to the wire, wax can help hold it in place until you come in to have it addressed.

Sharp or Sticking Wire(s)

If a wire starts to poke your cheek or gum, you may use a clean finger nail clipper to clip the wire or call the office to schedule an appointment to have this repaired.
